Benefits

What are the benefits of joining Croyde Surf Lifesaving Club?
Apart from gaining sea safety knowledge, improving your fitness levels and being part of a friendly club, we run training courses for our junior, senior and master members. These include the basic lifesaver support award through to the NARS beach lifeguard certificate, which is the internationaly recognised standard for professional lifeguards.

During the earlier years, children of 7 years upwards will be encouraged to take part in beach and pool awards, gaining skills in lifesaving, education and fitness standards.

Older children from 15 upwards, who are actively involved in surf lifesaving, can use these skills towards their duke of edinburgh awards, and their gcse exams for p.e. If assessed at club sessions.

Further positives for adults include using the first aid section of the beach lifeguard award in their workplace, as this is recognised by employers as the ‘appointed first aid person at work’ certificate. Many of our trained senior members are community ‘first responders’ - NHS volunteers who assist in emergencies within the local area.  we are also busy expanding our adult section, and this year have started training twice a week on a regular basis at Croyde beach.   Many of those who have joined in these sessions have been inspired to take up the challenge of a local competition, and a sponsored sea swim.  Already,  a few more interesting and  testing events  are being dreamed up for the crew to try  in the not too distant future ....watch out for further details / or ring James 890617 or Richard 890101 if you have a PLAN!

By the way, you do not need a child to join the club - ANY ADULT CAN JOIN CROYDE SURF LIFESAVING CLUB.

It’s not all work and no play though - socially, the club is brilliant for all ages. Children and youngsters are introduced to a whole group of people they would not normally meet, from other clubs, schools, and villages. For adults, too, they can get involved in community life and meet all types and ages of people, whilst exploring new skills. There are club BBQ’s, social nights, sponsored swims, fund-raising raffles …and of course the annual duck racing weekend!!…..plus our exciting committee meetings!
